Now It’s NOT the Chicken Pox!

So yeah, now they’re saying Sai didn’t have chicken pox. ARGH!

Before, we were talking with the nurse at the pediatrician’s office. We never actually took him in. They were like “Yes it’s chicken pox. No don’t bring him in.” every time we called. So he never actually had a doctor see him.

Today Joe took Sai to an allergist—trying to get his allergies under control—and the doc said not chicken pox and it needs to be under control before they can start working on his allergies. The doc gave us a prescription for a medicine used for cold sores (herpes, heaven help us!), shingles, chicken pox, etc. And Jay’s getting the same bumps/blisters around his mouth. So Joe is going to try and get him into the pediatrician tomorrow and tell him what happened with Sai.

Whew. So much going on.

And then Sai lost his second tooth today. It was a traumatic experience with lots of crying in anticipation of pain. And when it was finally over he was like that’s it? It’s over? He’s got a new tooth almost ready to pop through in the spot that the two previous teeth were. His adult teeth are going to be huge!

Over the weekend Joe and I got to go on a date. Just the two of us. No kids. Ahh… We ate at Five Guys Burgers and Fries (I love that place! Best fries and best burgers.) and then we went to the movies and saw the new Star Trek. Which I really liked. And I’m a HUGE Star Wars fan so I found this to be so very funny!

CHICKEN POX

Yup. It’s official. Sai has chicken pox even though he is vaccinated. The doctor’s office said that since he’s been immunized it should be a light case. But one of my high school friends on Facebook says her kids had really bad cases after being vaccinated. So we’ll just wait and see. He gets to miss one week of the last three weeks of school. And that means I get to go to work on time for a whole week. Yay for me. But not for my poor Sai.

Great. This is Not Fun!

So Thursday Sai comes home from school and was fine. By the time I got home from work two and a half hours later he had a headache and fever. We kept him home from school Friday. Saturday morning he woke up with a rash on his face and arms. We called the pediatrician’s office and talked with a nurse. She thought that it was probably just a rash–not chicken pox–and to treat him with Tylenol and Benadryl. This morning poor Sai was completely covered with bumps.

And now…

We think he has…

CHICKEN POX!

Seriously.

I don’t get it. He’s completely caught up on his immunizations. But we found these three blister-like bumps on his chin. And so did some Googling and checked out our pediatricians web site and we’re thinking it’s chicken pox. DANG!

I’m worried about Jay and Sophie now. They’ve each only had one dose of the chicken pox vaccine. Sophie just got hers two weeks ago. I’ve seen a few little bumps on Sophie’s tummy but I don’t know if it’s the same thing or something random.

I guess we’ll see what tomorrow brings. If he has more of these blistery things. We’ll have to call the pediatrician again. Wonder if we’ll need to take him in to verify.

But other than this it has been a really good Mother’s Day weekend. Joe got me some sandals that I really wanted. Chaco ZX2. NICE! I’ll have to get a picture of them later. Saturday we worked up at Joe’s parents for our Mother’s/Father’s Day gift. We built garden boxes and planted a small garden. And we helped with their yard–it was maybe the third time ever in my life that I’ve mowed a lawn. It wasn’t bad except for the steep hill on the side of the house. That was fun. Today we had lunch at my sister’s for Mother’s Day. And tomorrow I’ll go help my parents weed and plant flowers for Mother’s/Father’s Day.

Joe finished his externship last week. Now we are crossing our fingers for a job. He’s applied and we are just waiting to hear back from the hospital. Until then, or until he starts back to school in the fall, he is Mr. Mom. He gets to stay home with the kids and take care of things. Yeah, it’s going to be hard to keep up with Sophie the trouble maker! But he’s a GREAT dad and can handle it.

Oh, and Joe’s nephew now has a rash. Guess he’s got it now too. Sorry Jared!

Walking

We’re trying to take walks as a family every evening.

It’s killing me!

I’m so out of shape! Plus, we live on the side of a mountain. The first half of the walk is up the side of the mountain. The first two blocks are super steep. It takes me a while because I’m pushing Jay in the stroller and the angle my body ends up at makes my calves strain. And Sai is Mr. Energy and runs up the hill. We have to tell him to stop and wait. And then I need a rest. Joe has Sophie on his back in the Kelty and it doesn’t seem to bother him as much as me pushing Jay bothers me. I think tonight I’m going to have Sophie on my back and see if it’s easier for me.

Here we are almost at the top. We’re still going up hill but it’s not as steep.

This is Joe, Sophie, and Sai. We’re almost at the bottom and they were pretty far ahead of me.   But I was trying to navigate the stroller with sleeping Jay.

And here is poor Jay. He fell asleep on the way back home. He couldn’t keep his head up and it kept falling forward. (Into his new Pokemon backpack that he only took off once all day. He put it on backwards for the walk so he could sit in the stroller.) I ended up turning the stroller around and taking him down backwards. He was so asleep that he didn’t wake up until I had him all the way in the house to his bedroom which included going down some stairs. And it took Sophie “kissing” him and yelling in his face for him to wake up. He must have played pretty hard yesterday.

Catching Up

I’ve been so bad about posting for a while. But we just got a new computer and internet at home. It’s so nice! But I find that after spending a day on a computer at work I don’t really want to do it when I get home.

I thought I’d share some pictures and things that have been going on here in the last little while.

Sophie’s birthday was a few weeks ago. She had fun! She got lots of clothes and tried to put them on herself. She didn’t much like her cake but I’m OK with that.

My friend Rhonda came to visit way back in March. Here’s a picture of the two of us. (I have lots of pictures of our kids and only two of that are just the two of us.)

Joe’s almost done with his externship. YAY! He has three more days this week. Then he’s applying for some jobs at the same hospital. So we are keeping our fingers crossed that he’ll get a job there.

Now we are off to Joe’s parents for a cinco de mayo dinner. (Yes, I know today isn’t the 5th but it’s easier to get the family together on the weekend.)
