(This post was written and supposed to be posted yesterday. I don’t know what happened! I was trying to figure it out last night on my phone but it wasn’t easy–my phone internet is fast, but not fast enough for my patience last night.)

I have some cute pictures to share. I didn’t get any of Jay–I feel bad about that. But here are some of Sai and Sophie.

Sophie is way into using her hands. (She was trying to attack my phone when i was using it while holding her. Is that a sign of phone usage to come ???) Last night Joe put her on the couch with me while I was folding laundry. She got so excited!

She was REALLY getting into it. Grabbing the boys’ clothes and flapping them around. So silly.

Our babysitter, Cousin Felesha, brought her theater makeup over today. She painted Sai up like a monkey.

Still no sewing going on here. I ran out of time last night. I didn’t even have time to watch SYTYCD or Project Runway. Thank heavens for DVRs.

Yes, I should be working right now. But there’s only a half hour left in the day and the last two hours have been crazy! So I’m justifying blogging at work.

I’ve been wanting to get my sewing machine out and sew. I just feel like if I did that in the evenings when I get home from work that I’d be ignoring my family that I’ve been away from all day. Plus, Joe usually goes to the library to study after dinner.

So whenever I can carve out some sewing time, and not feel guilty about it, here are some projects I want to try.

I want to make this thread catcher for my sewing machine. Maybe I would be less messy when I sew. Yeah, right!

I’ve been wanting some cute new summery skirts. I saw this skirt tutorial. It looks so easy and not expensive to do, unless you pick expensive fabric. And I saw a girl wearing a similar style skirt and she had a small bias tape hem. Hmmm.. that would be cute but do I have the patience for that? I don’t have a serger so that’s an option for hemming.

And then I felt like I was having a bad hair day this morning. I just got my hair cut over the weekend. Took about 4 inches off. (Thanks Felicia. But I think I want more bangs than the swoop bangs.) But anyway, I was thinking it would have been a good day for a headband. So I found this headband tutorial and this headband tutorial and this headband tutorial.

(WHOOPS! One of the developers came over and caught me blogging. Oh well.)

I have enough fabric at my sister’s to make the thread catcher or headbands. But any big length of material that I have is in storage and I’m not sure I have anything over 1 yard. Possible excuse to go shopping?

And I want to try to make a dress for Sophie. Any suggestions for a good baby dress pattern? She’s about a three month size (24″ long and 12+ lbs).

Also, I was trying to find something in my comments the other day and figured out how to edit comments. YAY! I like to edit them. It will be fun to start doing it again.

And now it’s time to go home. YAY!

Sai wanted a mohawk. I tried. He’s happy with it. I think the sides are too short. And I’m wondering how long it will last. Maybe Aunt Felicia can fix it up this weekend.

…Are giving me a headache!

After we moved to Utah we went to the Sprint store and got local numbers. I was glad to get an 801 number instead of the new area code. But I didn’t realize that I got an 801 number because I got a recycled phone number. You would think it wouldn’t be a problem but Terry, former owner of my new number, didn’t tell people her new number.

So I get a few calls a week from people looking for Terry. I’m nice about it and say they have the wrong number. Yes, it used to be Terry’s but it no longer is. But it turns into a headache when people call the number twice because they don’t believe. Example:

Get a call from a number in Hawaii. Caller asks for Terry I say wrong number. Caller recites phone number. Yup, that’s the number you called. Hang up. Less than two minutes later (I checked my call log so I know it was only two minutes) the same caller calls. As soon as I answer the caller breaks into “Terry, blah blah blah…” and I have to break in and say still wrong number. That happened again with a caller from Iowa.

I feel like changing my voice mail greeting to “You have reached 801-555-5555. This is no longer Terry’s phone. If you are not calling for Terry please leave a message.” And then all the numbers I don’t recognize I would let go to voice mail. That should alleviate my headache, right?

Joe called me yesterday at about 3:40. There was an emergency. The boys were jumping up on the couch. And no matter how many times both Joe and I tell them not to do it and to stop, they keep doing it! Anyway, Jay hit his head on the tile window sill behind the couch. He broke the tile and his head was bleeding.

So I rushed home thinking we were heading off to the doctor’s for stitches. Jay is our bruiser. He’s been rushed to the doctor for stitches before, but didn’t end up getting stitches. (Despite the nurse freaking me out saying that he would need stitches and would have to be strapped down to get them–he was about 10 months old at the time.)

I walk in the house expecting screaming, or crying. But it was quiet. Sophie was taking a nap and slept through all the excitement. Sai was in trouble for not listening to dad and was laying on his bed. And Jay was sitting on Joe’s lap with an icepack on his head.

Jay had a small goose egg and two bleeding scratches. It wasn’t as bad as I was expecting. But Joe and I were still worried about Jay having a concussion. We’ve been extra worried about Jay’s head since he got a concussion when he was 18 months old. (See, he is my bruiser.) So I called the pediatrician’s office and talked to a nurse. The nurse was awesome. She had me check him out and told me that she didn’t think it was a concussion but if displayed any of the signs she told me then I was to call back in. (I love this pediatrician’s office. They have a nurse on-call 24/7 to answer any questions you have.)

So we watched Jay. And he was OK. Joe and I think that if the tile wouldn’t have broken that Jay would have hit his head harder and probably would have ended up with a concussion. But I feel bad becuase we are staying with my sister and he broke her tile!

Sorry about the tile, Tracy! Tracy’s at Girls Camp right now. Well, actually she has to work this morning so she is on her way down. So I hope to talk to her before she sees this!

We had a good 4th of July. We started out the day having breakfast with my family. Luckily it was early enough (but not too early) that it didn’t get really hot. The boys had fun playing with all of their cousins. I had fun talking with my brothers and sisters and brothers- and sisters-in-law. Sophie got passed around but she was pretty OK with it.

For dinner we went to Joe’s parents. We had dinner and let off fireworks. The boys had fun picking out what fireworks to do next. Then it was time for the city fireworks. Joe and Sophie and I left. Sai and Jay stayed for fireworks and spent the night with Grandpa and Grandma. This picture is Sophie with Uncle Manny while we were outside doing fireworks. It’s so funny!

And here is Sophie earlier in the day. She has this toy monkey and she loves him! She gets all excited and grabs for him and gives him kisses (slobbers all over it).

I just realized that I didn’t get any pictures of the boys. They had a really good 4th, though. Saturday Grandpa and Grandma took Sai and Jay to the dinosaur museum. They had a blast. Joe and Sophie and I just hung out.

Yesterday when I was getting my purse ready for today Sai asked me if I was going to go to work. When I told him, yes, I’m going to work tomorrow, he got excited. He really enjoys having Felesha come and watch him while I’m at work and Joe is at school. I know it’s a good thing that they like their babysitter. But it makes me feel bad. Even Jay likes it.

My oldest child is 6 today. I can’t believe he is so old! He has to use TWO HANDS to show you how old he is. It’s exciting.

This morning he asked me about his birthday cake (cake mix on the counter behind him in the picture… didn’t get it made last night). I was shocked he asked about that and not about toys. Maybe he doesn’t realize that Joe went toy shopping yesterday after school and that I hid the bag in the closet. Or maybe he’ll be snoopy this morning and find it like he did on Jay’s birthday.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY SAI!

Saturday we went to the big toy store. The boys were sooooo excited. Jay was cracking me up! We went with the intent to look at toys to get an idea of what to get Sai for his birthday tomorrow.

While we were looking at Transformer toys and Star Wars toys I looked across the aisle to the pink side. And I thought, “Oh! I can start looking at girl toys now.” It seemed that there were more boy toys than girl toys. And most of the girl toys were dolls and stuff. But I got super annoyed that there was one whole row dedicated to pretend cleaning and cooking supplies. It just seemed so stereotypical and I was annoyed. I’m not a super feminist but that sure touched off the feminist in me. Boys can play like they are vacuuming and sweeping too!

And then there were the freaky dolls that started talking when I walked by. It’s all a little too Chatty Cathy/Twilight Zone for me.

Friday I got off work early so we did the big dinner and movie for Sai’s birthday since we can’t do it during the day tomorrow. He picked to eat at Cracker Barrel. Yum. And we went to see Wall-e. Good movie.

12 years ago today Joe and I got married. I can’t believe it. We have been through a lot of good and a lot of bad. Here are some (hopefully) interesting tidbits about us.

*We were trying to remember our first real date and we think we went to this place called Galaxy Diner (which is now long gone).

*We have moved a lot in the past 12 years. Including times spent living with family, like right now, we have had 7 places to call home. And we are looking forward to our 8th.

*We’ve done a little bit of traveling. We tried to get a lot of travelling in before we started having kids. One year we spent Joe’s birthday in September in Boston then we were in San Diego for Thanksgiving. It was fun to hit both coasts in 2 months.

*We didn’t want to rush into having kids when we got married. And we also had some infertility issues. So we celebrated our 6th anniversary on a Saturday and Sai was born on the following Monday.

I’m sure there are more interesting things about us but this is all I came up with thinking on the fly.

I’m very happy about being married to Joe. The past 12 years have had their ups and downs. But here we are. It started with 2 and now we are a family of 5.

I survived my first week back at work. It wasn’t bad. Knowing that the kids were home with Joe made the transition easier. And when Joe starts school next week it will be OK because his cousin is watching our kids.

Friday I got to meet up with my old friends Mindy and Serena. I was nervous that things would somehow be awkward. But they weren’t. We started chatting away like it hadn’t been a year or longer since we last saw each other. I got to see Serena’s cute baby girl who has tons of curly hair (I’m jealous. I hope Sophie didn’t get a complex after seeing that! ) This coming week I get to meet up with old friend Kelly. I get to pick the place, again. Oh the pressure!

And Friday Joe, Sai, and Jay went to the zoo with Joe’s sister Felicia. I think the boys had a lot of fun. Then the boys stayed the night at Grandpa and Grandma M. I didn’t see them again until late Saturday when we picked them up. I really missed them. When we pulled up to Joe’s parent’s Jay saw us and started crying. I think he realized that he missed us. Plus he was really tired. He had too much fun. And it was weird when it was just Joe, Sophie and me. It felt kind of like the old days when it was just Joe, Sai and me.

Does anyone know how to imbed videos from flickr into WordPress? I can’t figure it out and I have a cute video of Sophie I wanted to post. So just go see it here instead.

Here are the boys when I said good-bye yesterday morning as I headed off to my first day of work. The first day of work wasn’t bad. Wasn’t super productive but not terrible. I set up my cube (brand new laptop with docking station and huge monitor, Wahoo!) and met some people and got access to programs. That’s about it. I was happy to go home and see the family. Joe had dinner ready and the kids were all nice and happy.

I start work on Monday. It’s the job I had two interviews for. I can’t remember the name of my position. Something to do with supply chain. And since I’ve been away from the company for less than three years they are hiring me back at my old salary. YAY!

It’s amazing how things are falling into place for us. When we moved to Oregon a lot of things just fell into place for us making us feel like we made the right decision. The same thing is happening here. It feels like we are doing the right things.

Joe starts school on the 30th. We bought his school uniform–scrubs and mostly white shoes. And some school supplies. I think he’s good to go.

And we’ve been lucky to hire Joe’s cousin as our day care provider. So the kids will be watched by someone we know and trust. And because of Joe’s school schedule it will only be four days a week.

Living back in Utah has been interesting. I realize that I missed living by the mountains. I wish I had my camera cord so I could post pictures of the mountains and how close we are to them. And how close we ae to Utah Lake. I had also forgotten how to drive in traffic on the freeway. But it has been nice to be so close to so many things. And to have cheaper groceries. I had forgotten how much cheaper food is here than it was in Central Oregon. But we do have to deal with saes tax now.

Today is Jay’s 3rd birthday! I can’t believe that he is 3-years-old already.

Well, he is a big boy–he is well beyond the toddler stage. I’m really amazed at all the things he knows, says, and does. In fact, we are in the middle of potty training. He does really well. I think he likes being a big boy like Sai.

To celebrate his birthday we are going to lunch and a movie, all his choice. So that means McDonald’s and Kung Fu Panda. (We were going to go to the water park but it just isn’t quite warm enough for me.) And a cake and presents at some point today. I still have to frost his cake. I’m doing the lazy mom’s version and bought action figures to put on his cake since he said he wanted an Ironman cake.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY JAY!

I took the boys to University Mall today. They didn’t get the concept of a mall at first. Sai says “We’re going to Macy’s?” I tried explaining that it was a big building with lots of stores. They got it once we walked inside.

I got them each a new t-shirt–1 Star Wars Lego, 1 Speed Racer. Then we went to the cheap shoe store to look for summer sandals. The store didn’t have the sandals with toes in Sai’s size so we didn’t buy sandals.

Sai threw a HUGE fit. It was so embarassing! He was yelling at me amd tugging my arm all the back to the car. I seriously wanted to stop in front of everyone and paddle his rear end!

I made it out to the car, got the boys in their seats, and started to drive away. Sai starts yelling at me again. Things like “You’re a mean mom,” and “Nobody loves me,” and “You never buy me shoes,” and my favorite “Don’t tell Dad.” I lost it. I stopped the car and did a little yelling of my own. Not a proud mothering moment. (OK Rhonda,how do you lovng logic this one?)

I didn’t even have to say anything to Joe when we got home because Sai burst in and told on himself.

I’m over it now. Joe made chocolate chip cookies so I feel better.

I think it must be the stress of moving, or something, because we are sick. Joe’s been achy and sore throat and coughing. Sai’s had serious allergies and hives. Jay’s got runny nose and cough. I’ve got sore throat and aches. UGH!

But other than that things are great!

I’ve got a second interview on Monday for the first job. And an interview tomorrow for a second job. Both with the same company. I kind of don’t want the first job because it will require travel which I’m just not that excited about. So I’m really hoping the interview on Friday goes well. I have 9+ years of experience at this company which has really helped out. But if I don’t get a job here it’s not a big deal. I’ve been looking at other jobs. But the benefits at this company are what draws me. Plus it takes 5 minutes to drive there from my sister’s house!

If my parents have a USB cord that works with my camera I’ll post some pictures since they have the higher speed connection. 

Two boys with a bunk bed. I can’t make the top bed. When I put the sheets on I crawled up there. I will not do that again! I make Sai crawl up there to help me out. Sai is doing well on the top bunk. I was afraid that he would fall off if he needed to get up for the potty during the night. He has bonked his head on the ceiling, though, so we’ve told them NO PLAYING ON THE BEDS! (They’re like 2 of the monkeys from 5 little monkeys.)

And I’m missing out on all the blogs I like to read. I hope to get a chance to catch up on them soon.
